If you are using a SaaS subscription license, you can enable your Horizon 8 deployment to connect to the Horizon Control Plane. You can optionally use the SaaS services provided by the Horizon Control Plane. You must first use the Horizon Cloud Connector virtual appliance or Horizon Edge to connect your Horizon 8 deployment with the Horizon Control Plane.
SaaS Subscription Licenses
There are three types of SaaS subscription licenses: universal subscription license, Horizon PLUS subscription license, and apps subscription license. These licenses provide more flexible options for deploying the Horizon 8 product components. While the perpetual and term licenses only allow you to deploy Horizon 8 on-premises or in private datacenters, the SaaS subscription license gives you the ability to deploy into public clouds with VMware SDDC service such as VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution, Google VMware Cloud Engine, and Oracle VMware Cloud Solution.
The SaaS subscription license for Horizon 8 is managed by VMware only after you deploy the Horizon Cloud Connector virtual appliance or Horizon Edge. You will not receive the Horizon 8 license key with this license. However, you will receive license keys for vSphere, vCenter Server, vSAN, App Volumes, and Dynamic Environment Manager with some packages of this subscription license.
Some license packages are designed to be used either in an environment without vSphere (for example, Horizon Cloud on Azure) or in an environment that already contains VMware SDDC licenses (for example, Horizon 8 on Azure VMware Solution). These packages do not include vSphere, vCenter Server, and vSAN license keys,
Horizon Control Plane for Horizon 8 Pods
Horizon Control Plane is a distributed, cloud-based control plane that provides containerized services for the delivery of Horizon Cloud Service - next-gen functions and resources. For more information, see Horizon Control Plane in the Horizon Overview and Deployment Planning document.
Horizon Cloud Connector and Horizon Edge
The Horizon Cloud Connector is a virtual appliance that is deployed alongside the Horizon 8 pod and pairs the pod with the Horizon Control Plane. Horizon Cloud Connector is a required component that bridges your Horizon 8 pods with Horizon Control Plane.
When connecting Horizon 8 pods to Horizon Control Plane next-gen, use Horizon Edge instead of Horizon Cloud Connector.
