VMware Integrated OpenStack supports virtual CPU pinning. When running latency-sensitive applications inside a virtual machine, you can use virtual CPU pinning to eliminate the extra latency that is imposed by virtualization.

You use the OpenStack CLI or API to configure a Nova flavor with extra specs to use pinned virtual CPUs. The flavor includes a dedicated CPU policy setting to ensure that the entire physical core is allocated to a virtual CPU of an OpenStack instance. New VMs launched with the flavor will have the low latency settings.

  1. Using SSH, log in to the OpenStack Management Server.
  2. Configure the Nova flavor.
openstack flavor set m1.large --property hw:cpu_policy=dedicated
