If you develop virtual machines (VMs) or applications (VM bundles) on-premises, you must upload them to the cloud to create templates for VMs or lab templates. In addition, when you build a VM in the cloud, you have to install a media file (an ISO) with an OS.

You can import a virtual machine (VM) and a media file (ISO) to your cloud catalog using the administrator user interface. The supported file types are: OVF, OVA, virtual machine disk (VMDK), and ISO.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Lab Management > Lab Builder.
  2. Click the three ellipsis next to the Create New tab.
  3. Select Upload VMs/ISOs from the drop-down menu.
  4. On the Upload VMs/ISOs form, select a cloud catalog destination.
  5. To upload a file, select a file and click Attach Files. Or, you can directly drag the file from your local system to the Upload VM/ISOs window.
  6. When the file is displayed in the Upload window and ready for upload, click Upload.

The Manage Uploads widget displays the file upload status.

When an upload is completed, there is a waiting period before you can use the file, because the file is further processed and imported into the cloud. You can view the file upload status in the Manage Upload widget in the Dashboard. When the file is successfully uploaded, it automatically moves for the import operation. You can see the status of the file import in the Import window page. When the import operation is complete, the template is available in the Lab Builder as a published template for use. An automatic job regularly checks for uploaded items, updates the status, and syncs them with VMware Lab Platform and the Lab Builder. You can also start the resynchronize job manually.

  7. Click Close.

You can view the ISO (media files) in your cloud catalog from the Lab Management > Cloud Media page.

  8. Go to the dashboard (Dashboards > Default Dashboard) and monitor the progress under the Content Migration Task widget. To see the history of tasks, click the arrow next to the task name.
  9. Automatically, the resynchronize job is run every hour. To manually synchronize a lab after the upload, go back to Lab Builder and click the ellipsis next to the Create New tab, and click Full Resync Lab Templates for current catalog. To synchronize a lab for the cloud org, select the Full Sync Cloud Org option from the drop-down menu. The resynchronize action syncs all the media files and lab templates for the selected cloud.
