You can choose among several different purchase options to buy VMware Live Recovery.

Purchase Options

You can purchase the following for VMware Live Recovery:
  • Protected VM subscriptions. The number of virtual machines being replicated using the service, regardless of whether the virtual machines are currently powered on in the recovery site.
  • Protected capacity subscriptions. The sum of the logical (used) storage size of all protected virtual machines and all incremental cloud backups (snapshots) you choose to retain. If you are intending to only use VMware Live Site Recovery, then you do not need to buy a protected capacity subscription. Protected capacity subscriptions only apply to VMware Live Cyber Recovery.
Note: If you are not sure how much protected capacity you need, use the VMware Live Recovery Planner to estimate your needs.
Note: Work with your VMware sales representative to buy VMware Live Recovery subscriptions using SKUs from the price book to facilitate immediate service consumption.

Your VMware Live Recovery subscriptions enable you to deploy VMware Live Cyber Recovery and/or VMware Live Site Recovery. You can start out with one feature, switch to the other, or use both.

Offline Mode for VMware Live Site Recovery

If you have VMware Live Site Recovery servers deployed in an offline environment (disconnected from the internet) you can create an offline license key for VMware Live Site Recovery server pairs and protect VMs in an offline mode.

You can create an offline license key for an existing VMware Live Site Recovery pair, or a new pair, by choosing the number of VMs you want to protected and setting an expiration date for the license.

This offline license key can be changed by increasing or descreasing the number of VMs you want to protect, and by changing the expiration date of the modified license.

For more information, see Create an Offline License Key.

You can also change a license key from offline mode to cloud billing in the VMware Live Recovery global console. For more information, see .

Offline mode is supported for Site Recovery Manager version 9.0.2 and above.

Buying a Subscription

For VMware Live Recovery you can pay for a subscription up front for a term length of your choice, for a fixed amount of protected storage capacity and/or for a specific number of VMs.

If you plan to use VMware Live Cyber Recovery, you should purchase a minimum quantity of 10 TiBs per-subscription region. You can expand capacity in increments of 1 TiB. There is no minimum purchase requirement for the number of VMs for either using VMware Live Site Recovery or VMware Live Cyber Recovery. For using VMware Live Site Recovery, buying a VM subscription is sufficient.

Purchasing VMware Live Cyber Recovery Recovery SDDCs

VMware Live Cyber Recovery uses the recovery SDDC for disaster recovery and ransomware recovery operations.

Recovery SDDCs leverage VMware Cloud on AWS hosts to enable ransomware and disaster recovery environments.

You can pay for recovery SDDC host usage on VMware Cloud on AWS in the following ways:
  • You can add hosts for just-in-time for ransomware and disaster recovery test and failover. Price is charged per month, payable in arrears.
  • Work with your sales representative to retroactively purchase existing VMware Cloud on AWS SKUs to cover host usage, in multiples of 30 days, within 48 hours after the end of usage.
  • If you are an AWS Resell customer, you can follow the same process but you must have a commercial relationship with Broadcom, which you can establish by purchasing any VMware by Broadcom subscription. A VMware by Broadcom subscription is required to perform disaster and ransomware recovery operations.

  • For always-on pilot light hosts on a recovery SDDC, you can purchase 1-year subscriptions of VMware Cloud on AWS hosts.
  • For planned disaster recovery tests, you can purchase a 90 day subscription in advance with monthly pricing.

Contact your sales VMware by Broadcom sales representative for more information.

Legacy VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery and Site Recovery Manager Subscriptions

If you have a legacy VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery subscription, you will get access to all VMware Live Recovery features until the end of your current term subscription at no additional charge.

At the end of your subscription term, you can work with your VMware Account Representative to purchase a subscription for VMware Live Recovery.

If you currently have a VMware Site Recovery Manager subscription, you can continue to use the product until the end of the subscription term. At the end of term, you need to purchase a new subscription of VMware Live Recovery to continue using the product. If you want to expand your disaster recovery usage, then you need to purchase a term subscription of VMware Live Recovery to cover that additional usage.

Seller of Record

Depending on who you purchased the VMware Live Recovery subscriptions from, your seller can be either Broadcom or AWS.
Note: You can no longer purchase new subscriptions from AWS as seller of record.

If your seller of record is Broadcom:

  • Billing is done by Broadcom.
  • Subscriptions are created by Broadcom.
  • You deploy the service from the VMware Live Recovery Global Console.
  • You manage your protected sites, recovery sites, recovery plans, and protection groups using either the VMware Live Cyber Recovery or VMware Live Site Recovery UIs.
When AWS is your seller of record:
  • Billing is done by AWS.
  • You can no longer create your own subscriptions.
  • You deploy the services from the VMware Live Recovery Global Console.
  • You manage your protected sites, recovery sites, recovery plans, and protection groups using either the VMware Live Cyber Recovery or VMware Live Site Recovery UIs.

2-Tier Support

With a 2-Tier option distributors can provide volume discounts for a reseller/end customer combination, and then make payments on their upfront commitment by signing a Commitment Based Contract (CBC) with VMware, committing to spend a certain amount of money on behalf of the reseller/end customer combination over a specific period. Distributors are charged monthly by VMware based on your consumption of VMware Live Recovery.
