Before you can use VMware Live Site Recovery, you must deploy the Site Recovery Manager virtual appliance on both the protected and the recovery site.

VMware Live Site Recovery requires Site Recovery Manager version 9.0 or later and vSphere Replication version 9.0 or later.

The Site Recovery Manager virtual appliance is a preconfigured VM that is optimized for running VMware Live Site Recovery and its associated services.

You deploy the appliance on an ESXi host in your vSphere environment.

You can use the Site Recovery Manager virtual appliance Management Interface to configure the Site Recovery Manager virtual appliance and edit the appliance settings.

After you deploy and configure Site Recovery Manager instances on both sites, the Site Recovery Manager plug-in appears in the vSphere Client.

The Site Recovery Manager virtual appliance supports only the vPostgress embedded database.

For information about the compatibility between vCenter Server and Site Recovery Manager versions, see vCenter Server Requirements in the Compatibility Matrices for VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0 at https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Live-Site-Recovery/9.0/rn/compatibility-matrices-for-vmware-live-site-recovery-90/index.html.
