Mirage Bare Metal Provisioning using WinPE supports partitioning disks as either MBR or GPT. GPT partitioned disks are supported on UEFI based devices.

About this task

You can configure a machine with an existing partition or no partition. Mirage applies the correct supported partition. The target disk must be able to store the Base Image.

This table describes the various machine disk scenarios. Legacy BIOS and UEFI represent the boot mode of the device while the ForceGPT option represents the configuration option you specified when you created the Mirage WinPE image in Create a WinPE Image for Mirage.

Important:

If you create a Mirage WinPE Bare Metal Provisioning ISO configured to force GPT partitions, then an existing MBR partition will be replaced with a GPT partition only when the Boot mode is UEFI. Otherwise an MBR partition remains.

Procedure

  1. Create Mirage WinPE Bare Metal Provisioning ISO. See Create a WinPE Image for Mirage.
  2. Boot a machine with the newly created WinPE Bare Metal Provisioning ISO.
  3. Assign or restore a Mirage Base Image to the machine using the Web Console or Self Service Portal.

    1. Navigate to the Mirage Web console and click the Pending Devices tab.

    2. Select the device with the host name that you noted and click Provision Endpoint.

    Mirage Management console

    1. Navigate to the Mirage Management console and select Inventory > Pending Devices.

    2. Right-click the WinPE device and select Device Provisioning.

    Mirage runs a validation and notifies you before applying the image if the disk is changed, meaning either the partition is changed or the disk is partitioned.

Results

Mirage partitions the disk, if needed, and applies the base image. After a reboot, the machine has the base image as the operating system.
