You can change the resource allocation used by the NSX Intelligence appliance to accommodate your needs.

For example, if you want to access a feature that requires more resources than what is allocated, you can change the NSX Intelligence appliance to use a large form factor.

Note: When you resize the NSX Intelligence appliance, there might be some loss of data flow information until the appliance is back in a STABLE status again.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that the new appliance size meets the system requirements for the NSX Intelligence features that you want to use. See "NSX Intelligence System Requirements" in the Installing and Upgrading VMware NSX Intelligence document.

Procedure

  1. Log in with admin privileges to the NSX Intelligence appliance's command-line interface (CLI).
  2. From the CLI prompt, use the shutdown command to shut down the NSX Intelligence appliance.
  3. Modify the number of CPU cores and memory used by the NSX Intelligence appliance.
    1. Log in to the compute manager (such as VMware vCenter Server™) that was used to deploy the NSX Intelligence appliance.
    2. Ensure that the NSX Intelligence virtual machine is shut down.
    3. Adjust the number of CPU cores and memory used by the NSX Intelligence virtual machine as needed.
    4. Restart the NSX Intelligence virtual machine.
  4. Log back in to the NSX Intelligence CLI with admin privileges and run the following command from the CLI prompt.
    set intelligence configuration form-factor-config

This command reconfigures the NSX Intelligence appliance to use the newly allocated resources you assigned to the virtual machine in the previous step.

The following system output is displayed for a successful execution of the previous command.
    Operation status is executing.
Waiting 2 seconds before retrying node-manager operation status check.

NSX Intelligence configuration updated according to current appliance form factor.

  5. From the CLI prompt, use the reboot command to restart the NSX Intelligence appliance.
  6. Verify that the size of the resources assigned to the NSX Intelligence appliance has been updated.
    1. From your browser, log in with the required privileges to the NSX Manager at https://<nsx-manager-ip-address>.
    2. Navigate to System > Appliances
    3. Locate the NSX Intelligence appliance card and verify that the changes you applied have been allocated to the vCPU and memory sizes.
