The following figures display the VMware NSX Migration for VMware Cloud Director tool source and target architectures.
This figure represents an example of a source environment that can be migrated using the VMware NSX Migration for VMware Cloud Director tool. It consists of four organization VDCs with several networks (shared and not shared) of different types.
The Tier-0/VRF gateway in the target environment must be deployed and configured before the migration and imported into VMware Cloud Director. In order to achieve network migration with minimum disruption, it must be able to route the same external networks subnets as the source external network. The following diagram shows one possible approach where the Tier-0/VRF has uplinks in the same VLAN as the source external network and leverages proxy ARP to “advertise” migrated external IPs allocated to tenant Org VDC gateways.
After migration, the source environment represented in the source figure above is translated into the architecture depicted in the following figure. The source networking topology remains intact, but the networks and gateways are disconnected in order not to create IP conflicts. The gateway allocated IPs are migrated and the external network IP Pools are adjusted appropriately.
