If your vSphere ESXi host is unsupported, manually upgrade your vSphere ESXi host to the supported version.

Prerequisites

Verify that the vSphere ESXi host is supported. See Supported Hypervisor Upgrade Path.

Procedure

  1. Upgrade the vSphere ESXi host.
    • Upgrade vSphere ESXi 6.7 to vSphere ESXi 6.7 U1.

      esxcli software profile update --depot <build_path> --profile ESXi-6.7.0-XXXXX-standard --allow-downgrades
       --no-sig-check
    • Upgrade vSphere ESXi 6.5 U1 to vSphere ESXi 6.7.

      esxcli software profile update --depot <build_path> --profile ESXi-6.7.0-7981081-standard --allow-downgrades
       --no-sig-check
    • Upgrade vSphere ESXi 6.5 U1 to vSphere ESXi 6.5 U2.

      esxcli software profile update --depot <build_path> --profile ESXi-6.5.0-7942877-standard --allow-downgrades
       --no-sig-check
  2. Reboot the vSphere ESXi host.

    reboot

  3. (Optional) Upgrade vSphere ESXi in an offline environment using esxcli.
    1. Download the depot file and copy the file to the server.
    2. Upgrade the vSphere ESXi host.

      esxcli software profile update -d <path-to-depot-file > -p <build> -standard --allow-downgrades --no-sig-check

  4. (Optional) Upgrade vSphere ESXi in an offline environment using VUM.
    1. Import an installation ISO image into VUM repository.
    2. Create a baseline based on the imported image.
