VMware NSX 4.1.2.3 and later supports the new solution license vSphere 8 License Keys for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
All the older license types and license-related functionalities are also valid and supported. For more information, see License Types.
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) License
The consumption for the VCF solution license is tracked against your vCenter Servers. The minimum version supported for
vCenter Server Appliance is 8.0 Update 2b.
- You must create the vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus for VCF license in your vCenter Server, and then assign this license to vCenter Server. For more information about adding a license key, see Managing vSphere Licenses.
- You can then view the assigned VCF license on the NSX Manager UI under the page. You cannot add or delete VCF single license from the NSX UI. License is managed by VCF and cannot be modified from the NSX UI. If vCenter Server is deleted or the communication is down, the VCF license is removed from the NSX UI.
- You can now add the Security Add-on licenses from the page.
If the assigned VCF license expires or becomes invalid, you have a 3-day period to obtain the necessary entitlement. Failure to do so will result in only read and delete operations being allowed for the objects that were configured before the license expired or before an upgrade, backup, or restoration process began. The edit, create, and new operations are disabled.
