Skyline Collector requires the specific permissions to successfully add a vCenter Server or NSX Manager to the Skyline Collector for the purpose of providing proactive support.
vCenter Server Account Permissions
An account with the following permissions is required to add a vCenter Server to the Skyline Collector.
Built-in vCenter Server Read-only role
Allows viewing installed licenses and adding or removing licenses.
Allows retrieval of a list of diagnostic files, log header, binary files, or diagnostic bundle. This permission is required for Skyline Log Assist to function properly.
Allows viewing the health of vCenter Server components.
Allows reading and modifying runtime vCenter Server configuration settings.
To create a user with these permissions, refer to the documentation specific to your version of vCenter Server.
NSX Manager Account Permissions
An account with the following permissions is required to add an NSX Manager to the Skyline Collector.
NSX Manager built-in Auditor role.
Access to query information through APIs. Instructions for how to create a user with API privileges within NSX Manager can be found within VMware Knowledge Base Article 2150736.
While VMware continues to recommend that an account with the NSX Manager built-in Auditor role be used, the Auditor role does not have privileges to collect NSX Edge support log bundles using Skyline Log Assist.
If you wish to enable the collection of NSX Edge support log bundles with Skyline Log Assist, you must use an account with the NSX Manager built-in NSX Administrator role when adding an NSX Manager to the Skyline Collector.
Refer to the documentation specific to your version of NSX for vSphere to set up a user account with these privileges.
