What's in the Release Notes

The release notes cover the following topics:

What's New

Bulk Product Operations

Bulk Product Operations makes it easier to add, and edit, to the Skyline Collector. You can also make bulk product edits and deletions. The desired operation (add, edit, delete), object details, and account to use are input into a template file (CSV). The template file is used to execute bulk product operations. Any failure to execute a bulk product operation, with the reason for failure, is displayed within the Skyline Collector web interface. You can access Bulk Product Operations from the Configuration menu in the Skyline Collector. There, you can download the template file (CSV) to be used to execute bulk product operations.

Simplified vCenter Server Configuration

In previous versions, if you were using an external Platform Services Controller (PSC), or using a custom Single Sign-On domain, you were required to enter those details when adding a vCenter Server to the Skyline Collector. Now, you are only required to enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address of the vCenter Server, and an account username and password to add the vCenter Server to the Skyline Collector. Any additional details required to add the vCenter Server are automatically detected.

We have removed the ability to choose which data centers to include in the data collected by the Skyline Collector. This applies to both product usage data, and support-bundles collected using Skyline Log Assist.

Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) Removed

The Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) has been removed from the Skyline Collector and can no-longer be accessed. The ability to manually update the Skyline Collector is now available within the Skyline Collector web interface. If an update is available, a banner notification will be displayed within the Skyline Collector web interface.

To edit the networking configuration of the Skyline Collector, access the console of the Skyline Collector virtual appliance, run the following command, and use the menu options available to update the network configuration.

/opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_config_net

vRealize Operations Authorization Source Removed

If using an authorization source for accessing vRealize Operations, such as VMware Identity Manager (vIDM), you now include the authorization source within the account username when adding a vRealize Operations Manager to a Skyline Collector. Previously, you were required to enter the authorization source in a separate field.

Compatibility

The deployment of the Skyline Collector is supported on VMware products and solutions that are Generally Available and have not met their End of General Support date.

Resolved Issues

  • VMware Tools updated to 10346 (10.3.10) to address security vulnerabilities that exist in previous versions of VMware Tools.
  • Resolved the misspelling of Friendly on the Collector Name setting.
  • Resolved an issue where if the Skyline Collector was unable to connect to vcsa.vmware.com, the Skyline Collector will fail to require information needed from VMware and will not start. This led to an unresponsive web interface or general availability issues.
  • Resolved an issue where race condition occurs during upgrade of Skyline Collector virtual appliance.
  • Resolved an issue where non-registered Skyline Collector proxy configuration does not load correctly after refresh, or change.
  • Removed local privilege escalation vulnerability that existed when Auto-Upgrade is executed.
