Installing VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere involves multiple steps. To ensure a successful installation, understand the sequence of tasks required.

Before installing VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics, you must download the Photon OS image and VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere image, and upload these images to a vSphere datastore.

Installing VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere includes installing Photon OS in a vSphere virtual machine and running the VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere installation script in Photon OS. The installation script performs the following tasks.

  • Set up the required service user account (shd-admin).

  • Create install location and set appropriate permissions (/opt/vmware-shd).

  • Install the RPMs (nginx for web server/reverse proxy and VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere).

  • Create self-signed certificates for the web server.

  • Configure firewall rules to open port 443 and 8443.

  • Configure services for web server (nginx) and VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere.

  • Run the initial user configuration utility.

  • Start the required services.
