VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere is installed on a virtual machine running Photon OS.

  • Verify that you have the VMware Photon OS image uploaded to a datastore.

  • Verify that you can access vSphere Infrastructure with privileges required for creating and interacting with virtual machine.

  • Verify that you have network configuration details for the virtual machine where you want to install VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics for vSphere.


  1. Using the vSphere Client, right-click the host you want to install the virtual machine.
  2. Click New Virtual Machine to create a virtual machine with the required configuration.

    Recommended Configuration:

    • Guest OS Family: Linux.

    • Guest OS Version: VMware Photon OS (64 bit).

    • CPU: 4.

    • Memory: 16 GB.

    • Hard Disk: 150 GB. Thin or thick as define by your policy.

    • Network: Select a network where you want to place this VM.

    • CD/DVD Drive: Select Datastore ISO File and open the uploaded Photon OS ISO file. Select the Connect at Power On check box.

  3. Power on the virtual machine and open the virtual machine console.
  4. To install the Photon OS VM, follow the prompts. Accept the defaults and set a root password.


A new Photon OS VM is created.

After the installation is complete, shut down the virtual machine.
