Performing initial discovery

Availability Manager provides the initial topology for your configuration. First, Availability Manager sends the topology to the Adapter Platform, and, in turn, the Adapter Platform sends the topology information to the ACM Domain Manager. This initial discovery is a required step.

You can use several methods to invoke the initial discovery process from Availability Manager. The VMware Smart Assurance IP Management Suite Discovery Guide contains instructions and more complete information about the discovery process and discovery methods.

Availability Manager discovers the following Unitary Computer Systems:

• Instances of LoadBalancer
• Instances of Firewall
• Instances of Host

Availability Manager also discovers VirtualTCP objects.
