Overview of ScaleIO Management

ScaleIO is a software-defined storage solution that uses existing servers' local disks and LAN to create a shared block storage that has all the benefits of external storage. The lightweight ScaleIO software components are installed on the application servers and enables administrators to add or remove servers and capacity on-the-fly.

The Server Manager provides ScaleIO management support for the following:

• Basic ScaleIO components discovery via using the REST API

• ScaleIO components monitoring by periodically polling the REST API

• Root-cause and impact analysis.

  Additional prerequisites are necessary to use the ScaleIO management feature. Review and fulfill them as described in “Prerequisites for the ScaleIO management” on page 39.
