programs create a new log file when they are restarted or when the log file is rolled over. This environment variable determines the number of log files that are saved by programs. “Managing Log Files” on page 121 provides additional information, including an example.
If this environment variable is set to 0, only the current log file and a backup of the previous log file are saved. If this variable is set to an invalid value, a warning message is written to the log file and the default value is used instead. Valid values are 0 through 999; the default value is 3.
