During an upgrade installation, the installation program performs the following tasks:

  1. Detects and stops all services, scheduled jobs, and processes that use programs or libraries that are running from the existing installation. It also stops the service daemon, sm_serviced, if it is running.

  2. Take the backup manually in the local directory.

    BASEDIR/smarts/backup.tar

  3. Removes the patch, if any, from the existing installation.

  4. Installs the 10.1.0.0 software.

  5. Presents instructions for restoring the user-customized files in the BASEDIR/smarts/backup.tar archive to the BASEDIR/smarts/local directory.

    The installation program checks for the creation of the backup.tar archive before removing the patch from the existing installation and installing the new version of software. If the file was not created, the installation program stops the installation and leaves the existing installation intact.
