Network Protocol Manager is able to discover devices that are running any of the following routing-protocol services:

  • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)

An external gateway protocol, which is defined in RFC 1657, that updates routes between autonomous systems.

  • Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)

A Cisco proprietary interior gateway protocol that integrates the capabilities of distance-vector protocols with the capabilities of link-state protocols.

  • Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS)

An Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) interior gateway protocol, which is defined in ISO 10589, that is designed to distribute routing information within an autonomous system.

  • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)

A link-state interior gateway protocol, which is defined in RFC 1253, that is used to distribute routing information within an autonomous system.

One instance of Network Protocol Manager for BGP is required to discover devices that are running BGP.

One instance of Network Protocol Manager for EIGRP is required to discover devices that are running EIGRP.

One instance of Network Protocol Manager for IS-IS is required to discover devices that are running IS-IS.

One instance of Network Protocol Manager for OSPF is required to discover devices that are running OSPF.
