The Optical Transport Manager for WDM identifies the following symptoms to diagnose the root-cause problem:

  • Card failure (entire card or component on a card)

  • Improper card removal

  • Line failure between components in a device

  • Line failure between devices

  • Line degradation

  • Automatic power reduction/shutdown

  • Port problems such as laser temperature, laser bias, and reflection

  • OpticalNetworkElement down

Special analysis is performed for links that connect to devices that are not managed by the Optical Transport Manager. This analysis diagnoses when alarms are due to problems in the connected network rather than in the network managed by the Optical Transport Manager.
