During the initial full discovery with full topology split, the Topology Split Manager discovers the topology in the managed IP network and then assigns the discovered devices to the IP Availability Managers. During any subsequent full discovery with full topology split, the Topology Split Manager rediscovers the topology in the managed IP network and then reassigns the discovered devices to the IP Availability Managers.

Rediscovering the topology in the managed IP network reveals any changes in the configuration or connectivity of the managed devices and keeps the topology current. For example, if a card is added to a switch, the Topology Split Manager must rediscover the switch so that it can add the new card to the topology. And if new devices have been added to the network and autodiscovery is enabled, autodiscovery will discover the new devices during the rediscovery.
