In a VoIP Availability Manager deployment, you install the VMware Smart Assurance Broker, VoIP Availability Manager, IP Availability Manager, Global Manager, Global Console, Adapter Platform, SNMP Trap Adapter (receiver), and VoIP Notification Trap Adapter products as services so that the host system automatically starts them as processes running in the background each time that the system boots. The respective installation guides—VMware Smart Assurance VoIP Availability Manager Installation Guide, VMware Smart Assurance Installation Guide for SAM, IP, ESM, MPLS, and NPM Managers, and VMware Smart Assurance Installation Guide for SAM, IP, ESM, MPLS, and NPM Managers—for these products describe the services in detail.
Currently, you cannot install the SNMP Trap Adapter (exploder) as a service, but you can use the sm_service command to register this adapter as a service after the installation. This section describes how to create and start the service for this adapter in “Start the trap exploder” on page 114. This section also provides additional information about the VoIP Notification Trap Adapter service in “The VoIP Notification Trap Adapter service” on page 116.
Typically, in any VMware Smart Assurance deployment, the order in which the applications are started is not important, except that the Broker must be started first.
The VMware Smart Assurance System Administration Guide provides more details about sm_service.
