The term event, as used in this document, represents either a root-cause problem diagnosed by a Domain Manager or a symptom detected by a Domain Manager; a Domain Manager correlates one or more symptoms to diagnose a root-cause problem. (The state—active or cleared—of a symptom depends on the SNMP polled results, SNMP traps, or alarms received from the managed objects in the managed network.) Events used as symptoms to diagnose a problem can also be perceived as impacts resulting from the problem.
