Following discovery, the Multicast Manager monitors events coming in from the IP Availability Manager, which may indicate a failure in the physical or IP infrastructure, such as a router failure, and events pertaining to entities in the multicast domain, such as a designated router (DR) address change.

The Multicast Manager associates events with the topology elements on which they occurred, and then performs cross-domain impact analysis to diagnose the failure and its impact within the multicast domain. The Multicast Manager creates and updates notifications, and exports them to the Global Manager. The impacts can be viewed in the Global Console, or retrieved using the Smart Remote API.

The Multicast Manager notifies users when the IP address of a designated router changes; such events may indicate that there is a problem in the network that should be investigated. In addition, the Multicast Manager notifies users when important network reconfigurations have taken place.
