The Multicast Manager monitors the multicast network using SNMP and external instrumentation of the multicast elements, polling the MIBs listed in “SNMP MIBs polled”. It compares the polling results to threshold values that define acceptable and unacceptable levels of operation. The Multicast Manager uses the threshold values, in conjunction with events from the IP Availability Manager, to monitor multicast operations.
You can customize the SNMP and external polling for the Multicast Manager by modifying default polling groups or by creating new polling groups. The polling groups periodically collect the data needed by the Multicast Manager to determine the availability of the multicast elements in the managed multicast environment. The polled data serves as input to the Multicast Manager correlation analysis.
“Polling for Analysis” provides a description of SNMP polling for correlation analysis.
