Polling groups and settings for the Multicast Manager are accessible via the Polling tab of the Polling and Thresholds Console.

Polling groups include the following polling settings:
  • SNMP—Configure polling intervals to monitor the PIM, IGMP, multicast groups and services, and MSDP session connections by probing the SNMP tables maintained by the SNMP agents of the multicast routing devices.
  • External—Configure polling intervals used to monitor multicast components such as PIM and IGMP interfaces, multicast groups and services, and MSDP sessions. The analysis results are collected by an external process for test purposes. The external polling setting is used only for testing or demonstration purposes.
You can customize polling groups and settings as needed:
  • Configure polling setting parameters
  • Specify additional matching criteria to further limit group membership

Polling groups and their settings

Following table lists the Multicast Manager polling groups and settings.
Polling group Description Polling setting
(S,G) Polling Allows you to set the polling parameters for SG objects, including filtering or creation of polling groups according to different criteria (e.g., whether an SG belongs to a DR). Polling is done for SG incoming/outgoing packet counters, and for the prune flag. Note that the (S,G) Polling group can be applied to all PimSGEntry classes (that is,*,G and S,G groups).
  • Multicast Group Performance SNMP Polling (default)
  • Multicast Group Performance External Polling
IGMP Interface Polling Allows you to set the IGMP interface polling parameters. This is used for polling IGMP interface oper status, and counters of joins and leaves.
  • IGMP Connectivity SNMP Polling (default)
  • IGMP Connectivity External Polling
MSDP Session Polling Allows you to set the MSDP session polling parameters. This is used for polling MSDP session peer state.
  • MSDP Session SNMP Polling (default)
  • MSDP Session External Polling
Multicast Service Polling Allows you to set the multicast service polling parameters. It is used for polling the number of SG entries in the device, and MSDP entries in the cache.
  • Multicast Service SNMP Polling (default)
  • Multicast Service External Polling
PIM Interface Polling Allows you to set the PIM interface polling parameters. It is used for polling PIM interface status and DR address changes
  • PIM Connectivity SNMP Polling (default)
  • PIM Connectivity External Polling

Polling setting parameters

Following table lists the Multicast Manager polling groups and setting parameters.

Parameter Values Description
AnalysisMode ENABLED

DISABLED

Default:
  • DISABLED for (S,G) Polling Group
  • ENABLED for all the other Groups
Enables or disables Multicast Manager connectivity/performance analysis; if analysis mode is disabled, no polling is performed.
PollingInterval 30 to 3600 seconds

Default: 240 seconds

Sets the time between successive polls.
Retries 0 to 10 retries

Default: 3

Sets the number of retry polls to perform when the initial poll fails.
Timeout 10 to 10000 milliseconds

Default: 700 milliseconds

Sets the amount of time allowed for the first poll request before it times out. Successive retries use longer times.
