To ensure that Tanzu Insights receives the alerts that trigger on various sources, you must onboard and set up cloud provider sources and VMware sources on VMware Tanzu Platform hub.
To fully leverage Tanzu Insights, you can set up and use one or more of the sources listed below. You need to have an account for a source before you start the onboarding process.
As you add the sources, it takes 1-6 hours for the data collection to complete and the initial topology to build. After that, you can see your observations.
After the resource data is collected from the cloud services or selected VMware services, it takes one hour or more to process the data, identify correlated observations, and generate insights.
You need to add one or more data sources listed below and verify that they are configured to support Tanzu Insights. The possible data sources include the following native public cloud and selected VMware services.
To get Insights about your AWS resources, you must add an Amazon Web Services account to VMware Tanzu Platform hub. As part of the add account process, you must also configure the event monitoring so that you can receive real-time insights.
To get Insights about your Azure resources, you must add a Microsoft Azure account to VMware Tanzu Platform hub. As part of the add account process, you must also configure the event monitoring so that you can receive real-time insights.
You can send the alerts and events data from Operations for Applications to Tanzu Platform hub. Once the data is in Tanzu Platform hub, Tanzu Insights can correlate the alerts and events sent from Operations for Applications with the other sources that send alerts and events to Tanzu Platform hub and generate insights.
Operations for Applications has two subscriptions:
VMware Cloud Services subscriptions: If your Operations for Applications account is onboarded to VMware Cloud services, your account is referred to as an onboarded account.
Original subscriptions: If your Operations for Applications account has not yet been onboarded to VMware Cloud services, your account is referred to as an original account. To send your alerts and events to Tanzu Platform hub, you need to file a support ticket and get help from our customer support team.
The Operations for Logs source can provide source data if you subscribe and have a VMware Aria Operations for Logs account. Currently, only alerts that include logs with a Kubernetes_Pod_name field are supported.
To work with Tanzu Insights, you must give the users one of the following roles in addition to at least a Hub Viewer role. For more information, see Setting up users and projects for VMware Tanzu Platform hub.
Role | Description |
---|---|
Insights Admin | User can view and manage all insights, including resolving insights. |
Insights Viewer | User can view all insights. They cannot make any changes. |
If you configured the source but Tanzu Insights is not receiving alerts, see the following troubleshooting options.
