VMware Telco Cloud Automation 3.0 presents the general availability of “Workflow Hub for Telco Cloud Automation” (Workflow Hub). Workflow Hub for VMware Telco Cloud Automation represents the next evolution of centralized operations and operating expense reduction. Workflow Hub is an umbrella orchestrator that unifies not only the existing automation modules of VMware Telco Cloud Automation, but also extends to other VMware telco cloud solutions like VMware Bare Metal Automation and VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance as well as third-party testing tools. Workflow Hub enables you to easily define repeatable workflows that are less error prone and require less manual intervention so that they can save time and reduce operating expenses.

By using pre-built templates as building blocks in a simple drag-and-drop GUI, Workflow Hub lets you quickly stitch together processes that address various use cases, like rapid cell site expansion or streamlined SDDC management.

Importantly, Workflow Hub helps to define processes, accelerate workflow and network service execution, reduces errors and, requires less user interaction—all improving network service time-to-market. This new abstraction layer allows for easier workflow construction and, especially, the built-in workflows and their building block steps require less engineering understanding and maintenance in the automated execution. Extensibility to third-party tools also helps to define customer-specific workflows.

Workflow Hub allows you to automate a sequence of tasks. You can define custom workflows in JSON or YAML using the serverless workflow DSL. Serverless Workflow provides a vendor-neutral and platform-independent workflow language, which lets you define and run domain-specific language (DSL) based workflows.

Workflow Hub also lets you orchestrate more complex workflows. You can drag and drop workflows and connect them to create a complex orchestration. You can also define your own Serverless Workflows and execute them using Workflow Hub.

By default, the following workflows are available in the Telco Cloud Automation portal:
  • ZTP-based host deployment
  • Management cluster creation
  • Management cluster upgrade
  • Workload cluster creation
