VMware Telco Cloud Automation 2.2 supports the upgrade of the existing Control Plane to the latest versions.

Follow these steps to upgrade the Workload Cluster Control Plane.

Select the supported Kubernetes version to upgrade the Control Plane first. When you upgrade the Control Plane, the add-ons are automatically upgraded. You can then upgrade the node pool. See Upgrade Workload Kubernetes Cluster Version.

Before upgrading the Control Plane, ensure that the Management cluster is upgraded to the VMware Telco Cloud Automation 2.2 and the status of the workload cluster is Provisioned.

  1. Log in to the VMware Telco Cloud Automation web interface.
  2. Go to Infrastructure > CaaS Infrastructure > Cluster Instances.
  3. Click Options () against the Kubernetes cluster that you want to upgrade.
  4. Click Edit Cluster Configuration.
  5. Under Configuration > Cluster Info, select the TCA BOM release that you to upgrade and click Next.
  6. Under Control Plane Info, click the Configurations icon.
  7. Select the VM Template relevant to the TCA BOM Release you selected and click Apply.
  8. Click Next > Deploy.
You can monitor the cluster upgrade process in Events tab. If the upgrade fails, click Retry. However, you cannot modify the configurations before you retry.

You successfully upgraded the Kubernetes Cluster instance and its Control Plane.
