VMware Telco Cloud Automation sends out an alert when the licenses threshold crosses 90%. However, TCA remains functional and no service is impacted.

The TCA supports following two types of licences:
  1. CPU Core based License

  2. Cell based License (Consumption details will not be shown for these license)

VNF resource consumption:

When designing the VNF catalog, it is mandatory to specify the virtual compute property at each VDU level in the TOSCA descriptor.

The TCA can use the information available in the descriptor to compute the overall vCPUs allocated to a particular VNF instance.

CaaS(Kubernetes VIM Types) consumption:

For CaaS, the calculation differs based on license type applied on TCA:

  • CPU Core based License : Licensing mechanism in TCA allows to count all K8s workload clusters resources and use them for consumption calculation.

CPU license usage is calculated based on the number of managed vCPUs per VIM. The transformation factor used for calculating CPU license usage is:
  • For CPU Core license transformation factor is 1 vCPUs = 1 Physical Core = 1 License Unit

Note:
  • Multiple term license can be applied on TCA to increase the license capacity.

  • While applying upgrade or Addon license, it recommended that the total capacity of upgrade or Addon license matches with the total capacity of base license.

To view the details about the number of available and used licenses, perform the following steps:
