This section describes the prerequisites you must follow to deploy the VMware Cloud Director Appliance.
Prerequisites
Download a copy of the VMware Cloud Director OVA file.
Note:The VMware Cloud Director appliance is a preconfigured VM that is optimized for running the VMware Cloud Director services. The appliance is distributed in the following name format:
VMware Cloud Director-v.v.v.v-nnnnnn_OVF10.ova
v.v.v.v represents the product version.
nnnnnn represents the build number.
The VMware Cloud Director appliance package contains the following software:
VMware Photon™ OS
VMware Cloud Director group of services
PostgreSQL 10
The VMware Cloud Director primary appliance of large size is suitable for production systems, while the small is suitable for lab or test systems. After the deployment, reconfigure the size of the appliance.
Mixed VMware Cloud Director installations on Linux and VMware Cloud Director appliance deployments in one server group are unsupported. The VMware Cloud Director appliance does not support external databases.
Ensure that the FQDNs of TCI_CD_Primary, TCI_CD_Standby_1, and TCI_CD_Standby_2 are registered in the DNS server for forward and reverse lookup. Verify that the FQDNs and IPs are resolved.
Deploy and configure an NFS server with an export setup to be used as the server group's transfer space. See Preparing the Transfer Server Storage.
Configure the Appliance Network. For more information, see the Appliance Network Configuration section.
Note:Starting with version 9.7, the VMware Cloud Director appliance is deployed with two networks, eth0 and eth1, so that you can isolate the HTTP traffic from the database traffic. The eth0 and eth1 networks must be placed on separate subnets. Different services listen on one or both of the corresponding network interfaces.
Ensure that VMware vSphere and NSX-T Data Center are installed and configured.
