vSphere Replication replicates VM data between data center objects within a single site or across sites. vSphere Replication fully supports vSAN. To provide a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of five minutes to 24 hours, deploy vSphere Replication as a virtual appliance in the Management Pod.

Prerequisites

  • As the Management Pod acts as the source site, install and configure a target site with a vCenter Server instance and ESXi hosts.

  • Verify that the FQDNs of the vSphere Replication appliance are registered in the DNS server for forward and reverse proxy. Verify that the FQDN and IP address of the vSphere Replication appliance are resolved. Do this for both the protected and recovery sites.

  • A VMkernel adapter is created on each host for the vSphere Replication traffic. For more information, see Isolating Network Traffic of vSphere Replication.

  • Prepare your environment for vSphere Replication installation.

Procedure

  1. On the protected site, log in to the vSphere Client on the management vCenter Server instance TCI_MGMT_VC and deploy the vSphere Replication appliance in the cluster TCI_MGMT_CLUSTER. For more information, see Deploy the vSphere Replication Virtual Appliance.
  2. Power ON the appliance when the vSphere Replication appliance deployment is completed.
  3. Register the vSphere Replication appliance with vCenter Single Sign-On. For more information, see Configure the vSphere Replication Appliance to Connect to a vCenter Server.
  4. On the recovery site, log in to the vSphere Client on the vCenter Server instance TCI_DR_VC and deploy the vSphere Replication appliance in the cluster TCI_DR_CLUSTER. For more information, see Deploy the vSphere Replication Virtual Appliance.
  5. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 on the recovery site.
