The Backup and Restore must qualify the software, storage, and server requirements.
Software Requirements
- The backup and restore software must comply with vSphere Storage APIs - Data Protection.
- Link to vSphere Storage APIs - Data Protection that further leads to the SDK. IT includes extensive information on how to use the APIs and names some of the third-party vendors of backup and restore solutions. See the https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1021175 for more information.
- You can download and use any tool such as Dell EMC - Avamar, Dell EMC - Networker, Veeam 4.0, Veritas and so on.
Storage Requirements
Storage requirements for Backup and Restore follow the policies of the IT department of the organization. Such as how many backups are stored and for what durations.
- Depending on the footprint of the number of devices supported by VMware Telco Cloud Operations, following information provides the storage requirements for backup:
- For the 2.5k footprint, 2,520 GB (2.46 TB). It implies that a single backup can take 2.46 TB of storage.
- For the 25k footprint, 11,520 GB (11.25 TB). It implies that a single backup can take 2.46 TB of storage.
- For the 50k footprint, 21,520 GB (21.06 TB). It implies that a single backup can take 2.46 TB of storage.
- Aside from the storage taken up by the five VMs, further storage requirements are provided in the documentation of the backup and restore tools themselves.
Access from Backup Server to Cluster
- The backup server must have networking access to the five Telco Cloud Operations VMs, and the vCenter Server that is controlling these five VMs.
- The backup server must be running on a Windows or a Linux platform at least and must have the access to the storage repository. Where backups can be stored into.
- Requirements for the backup server for compute and storage is provided by the vendor of that tool.
