To configure vRealize Log Insight, follow these steps.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the primary node as the default admin user.
  2. In the top right of the home page, select Administration.
  3. In the left pane of the Administration page, select License and enter the license number in the right pane.
  4. Click Time and synchronize the time on the vRealize Log Insight appliance with the NTP server.
  5. Enable the vRealize Log Insight Integrated Load Balancer by following the instructions in Working with an Integrated Load Balancer.
  6. Click vSphere and enter the management vCenter Server FQDN and login credentials. Test the connection to be sure it is successful.
  7. Select the Collect vCenter Server events, tasks, and alarms and then Configure ESXi hosts to send logs to Log Insight options.
  8. Save the configuration and repeat the process for the compute vCenter Server. See Connect vRealize Log Insight to a vSphere Environment.
  9. If vRealize Operations is already installed, complete this step. If it is not installed, install vRealize Operations, and then return to complete these steps.
    1. In the left pane, click vRealize Operations and enter the management vCenter Server FQDN and login credentials. Test the connection to ensure that it is successful.
    2. Select the Enable alerts integration and Enable launch in context options.
    3. Save the configuration and repeat the process for the compute vCenter Server. See Using vRealize Operations with vRealize Log Insight.
  10. Install the following required content packs to monitor the events, alerts, and queries related to a specific product or set of logs. You can install the packs from Marketplace without leaving the vRealize Log Insight UI. See Install a Content Pack from the Content Pack Marketplace.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for NSX-T.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for vRealize Orchestrator.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for Network Insight.

    The following content packs are already included with vRealize Log Insight.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for vCenter Server.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for vRealize Operations.

    • VMware vRealize Log Insight Content Pack for vSAN

  11. Install and configure vRealize Log Insight Linux and Windows agents. For more information, see Overview of vRealize Log Insight Agents. vRealize Log Insight agents collect the events and log files from Linux and Windows machines to forward to the vRealize Log Management server.
