To create the vSphere Distributed Switch, follow these steps.
Procedure
- Create a vSphere distributed switch named TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS.
- Add two uplink ports to the distributed switch.
- Add hosts ESXi_EDGE_01 through ESXi_EDGE_03 to TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS.
- Connect two physical Ethernet ports from each ESXi host to the uplink ports on TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS.
- For VMkernel networking, create the following port groups on TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS.
Table 1.

- For VM networking, create the following port groups on TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS.

- Migrate each ESXi host management VMkernel (vmk0) from the vStandard Switch to TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS and ensure that you choose ESXi Management port group on TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS Switch.
- Create VMkernel ports for the vMotion and vSAN traffic on each ESXi host and use TCP_EDGE_MGMT_VDS port groups created for the vMotion and vSAN traffic.
What to do next
VERIFICATION CHECKPOINT 3
After configuring the vSphere distributed switches in the edge cluster, verify the following:
Distributed switches are visible in each ESXi host in the edge cluster.
Ethernet ports of the ESXi host are connected to uplink ports on the distributed switch.
ESXi hosts are in the Connected state after migrating the VMK0 from vSS to vDS.
VMkernel adapters are created for each ESXi host, and the traffic services are enabled.
