In order for nonconsole applications to prompt for a username and password, the corresponding fields in clientConnect.conf must contain <PROMPT>. The client must be attached to a terminal, in order for the system to prompt the user. Lines containing a <PROMPT> are skipped by programs that are not attached to a terminal, even if they would otherwise be selected.

Responses to <PROMPT> are checked against username and password fields in serverConnect.conf.
