When domain managers are configured in a failover environment, follow these steps to perform an upgrade.

  1. Upgrade Active Domain Managers: Begin by upgrading the ACTIVE domain managers connected to VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance, one at a time.
  2. Handle Failover Manager: If the Failover Manager is running with one of the domain managers, it goes down when that domain manager is being upgraded. Do not start upgrading another domain manager during this time. The failover of domains are impacted while the Failover domain manager is being upgraded.
  3. Manage Service Downtime: During the upgrade of the ACTIVE domain manager, services attached to VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance goes down. The Failover Manager may detect this and initiate a failover in the domain managers, promoting the STANDBY domain to ACTIVE, which will then be attached to VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance.
  4. Restart Services: Once the upgrade is complete, all services, whether running in service mode or server mode are brought back up and attached to VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance, including the Failover Manager.
  5. Wait for Refresh: After upgrading the active site, wait for 20 minutes for all version and hostname information to be refreshed. During this time, older version and hostname information might still be displayed.
  6. Trigger Failover: After 20 minutes, you can trigger a failover on the STANDBY (newly promoted ACTIVE) site from VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance, provided the newly promoted ACTIVE domain is attached to VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance. After STANDBY domain is attached, verify the hostname and schedule the upgrade on STANDBY as well.
