You can distribute and manage ThinApp application packages in the VMware View environment. You can assign ThinApp application packages to desktops and pools using the View Administrator.

In a VMware View environment, you can implement either the centralized or decentralized mode of deployment. The workflow for deploying packages in the VMware View environment might involve the following tasks:

  1. Use SetUp Capture to create executable files for the captured applications. See Capturing and Building VMware ThinApp Packages Guide.
  2. Create a Windows network share to host the MSI packages that are distributed to VMware View desktops. See Capturing and Building VMware ThinApp Packages Guide.
  3. Create a login script to register the Windows network share that hosts your MSI packages as an application repository in View Administrator.

Login scripts are useful for nonpersistent desktops. See VMware View Administration Guide.

  4. Control user access to file shares.

IT administrators might control access by organizing network shares based on function and associating permissions with network shares based on those functional boundaries. See VMware ThinApp Deployment Guide.

  5. Add ThinApp applications to View Administrator by scanning an application repository, selecting ThinApp applications, and assigning applications to desktops and pools. See VMware ThinApp Deployment Guide.
  6. Create a template in View Administrator to specify a group of ThinApp applications. See VMware ThinApp Deployment Guide.
