You must now create and configure the management cluster.

About this task

This process consists of the following actions:

  • Enabling vSphere DRS.

  • Evabling Enhanced vMotion Compatability.

  • Adding the hosts to the cluster.

  • Adding a host to the active directory domain.

  • Renaming the vSAN datastore.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Management vCenter Server by using the vSphere Web Client.
    1. Open a Web browser and go to https://sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local/vsphere-client.
    2. Log in using the following credentials.

  2. Enable vSphere DRS.
    1. Expand the sfo01-m01dc Datacenter object.
    2. Click the sfo01-m01-mgmt01 cluster object then click the Configure tab.
    3. Select the vSphere DRS page, and click Edit.
    4. Select the Turn On vSphere DRS checkbox then click OK.
  3. Enable VMware EVC.
    1. Select the VMware EVC page, and click Edit.
    2. Set EVC mode to the highest available setting supported for the hosts in the cluster, and click OK.
  4. Add a host to the management cluster.
    1. Right-click the sfo01-m01-mgmt01 cluster, and click Add Host.
    2. On the Name and location page, enter sfo01m01esx02.sfo01.rainpole.local in the Host name or IP address text box and click Next.
    3. On the Connection settings page, enter the following credentials and click Next.

    4. In the Security Alert dialog, click Yes.
    5. On the Host summary page, review the host information and click Next.
    6. On the Assign license page, select the ESXi license key that you entered during the vCenter Server deployment and click Next.
    7. On the Lockdown mode page, click Next.
    8. On the Resource pool page, click Next.
    9. On the Ready to complete page, review your entries and click Finish.
  5. Repeat the previous step for the two remaining hosts to add them to the management cluster.

  6. Add an ESXi host to the active directory domain
    1. In the Navigator, click Hosts and Clusters and expand the entire sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local tree.
    2. Select the sfo01m01esx01.sfo01.rainpole.local host.
    3. Click the Configure tab.
    4. Under System, select Authentication Services.
    5. In the Authentication Services panel, click the Join Domain button.
    6. In the Join Domain dialog, enter the following settings and click OK.

  7. Set the Active Directory Service to Start and stop with host.
    1. In the Navigator, click Hosts and Clusters and expand the entire sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local tree.
    2. Select the sfo01m01esx01.sfo01.rainpole.local host.
    3. Click the Configure tab.
    4. Under System, select Security Profile.
    5. Click the Edit button next to Services.
    6. Select the Active Directory Service and change the Startup Policy to Start and stop with host and click OK.
  8. Rename the vSAN datastore.
    1. In the Navigator, click Storage and expand the entire sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local tree.
    2. Select vsanDatastore, and select Actions > Rename.
    3. In the Datastore - Rename dialog, enter sfo01-m01-vsan01 as the datastore name, and click OK.
