After you deploy the Compute vCenter Server, you must create and configure the shared edge and compute cluster.

To create and configure the shared edge and compute cluster, you perform the following procedures:
  • Create the cluster.
  • Configure DRS.
  • Add the hosts to the cluster.
  • Add the hosts to the active directory domain.
  • Create Resource Pools.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Compute vCenter Server by using the vSphere Web Client.
    1. Open a Web browser and go to https://lax01w01vc01.lax01.rainpole.local/vsphere-client.
    2. Log in using the following credentials.

  2. Create a data center object.
    1. In the Navigator pane, click Hosts and Clusters.
    2. Right-click lax01w01vc01.lax01.rainpole.local and select New Datacenter.
    3. In the New Datacenter dialog box, enter lax01-w01dc as name and click OK.
  3. Create the shared edge and compute cluster. 
    1. Right-click the lax01-w01dc data center and click New Cluster.
    2. In the New Cluster wizard, enter the following values and click OK

      EVC Set EVC mode to the highest available baseline that is supported for the lowest CPU architecture on the hosts in the cluster

  4. Add a host to the shared edge and compute cluster.
    1. Right-click the lax01-w01-comp01 cluster and click Add Host.
    2. On the Name and location page, enter lax01w01esx01.lax01.rainpole.local in the Host name or IP address text box and click Next.
    3. On the Connection settings page, enter the following credentials and click Next.

    4. In the Security Alert dialog box, click Yes.
    5. On the Host summary page, review the host information and click Next.
    6. On the Assign license page, select the ESXi license key, that you entered during the vCenter Server deployment, and click Next.
    7. On the Lockdown mode page, click Next.
    8. On the Resource pool page, click Next.
    9. On the Ready to complete page, review your entries and click Finish.
  5. Repeat the previous step to add the remaining hosts to the cluster.

  6. Add an ESXi host to the active directory domain.
    1. In the Navigator, click Hosts and Clusters and expand the entire lax01w01vc01.lax01.rainpole.local tree.
    2. Select the lax01w01esx01.lax01.rainpole.local host.
    3. Click the Configure tab.
    4. Under System, select Authentication Services.
    5. In the Authentication Services panel, click the Join Domain button.
    6. In the Join Domain dialog box, enter the following settings and click OK.

  7. Set the Active Directory Service to Start and stop with host.
    1. In the Navigator, click Hosts and Clusters and expand the entire lax01w01vc01.lax01.rainpole.local tree.
    2. Select the lax01w01esx01.lax01.rainpole.local host.
    3. Click the Configure tab.
    4. Under System, select Security Profile.
    5. Click the Edit button next to Services.
    6. Select the Active Directory service, change the Startup Policy to Start and stop with host and click OK.
  8. Configure a resource pool for the shared edge and compute cluster.
    1. Right-click the lax01-w01-comp01 cluster and select New Resource Pool.
    2. In the New Resource Pool dialog box, enter the following values and click OK.
