Deploy the new vSphere Replication virtual appliance in the protected region.

Procedure

  1. Log in to vCenter Server by using the vSphere Web Client.
    1. Open a Web browser and go to https://sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local/vsphere-client/.
    2. Log in by using the following credentials.
      Setting Value
      User name administrator@vsphere.local
      Password vsphere_admin_password
  2. Rename the existing vSphere Replication appliance and take a snapshot of the virtual machine.
    1. In the Navigator pane, click VMs and Templates.
    2. Expand the sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local tree, double-click the sfo01-m01dc data center, and expand the sfo01-m01fd-bcdr folder.
    3. Right-click the sfo01m01vrms01 virtual machine and select Rename.
    4. Enter sfo01m01vrms01_old as the new name of the virtual machine and click OK.
    5. Right-click the sfo01m01vrms01_old virtual machine and select Snapshots > Take Snapshot.
    6. In the Take Snapshot dialog box, click Yes.
    7. In the Take VM Snapshot dialog box, enter the following settings and click OK.

  3. In the Navigator pane, click Hosts and Clusters.
  4. Right-click sfo01m01vc01.sfo01.rainpole.local and select Deploy OVF Template.
  5. Deploy the new vSphere Replication virtual appliance.
    1. On the Select template page, click the Browse button.
    2. Navigate to the bin folder of the mounted VMware-vSphere_Replication-8.1.1-build_number.iso file on your computer, select the following files, click Open, and click Next.
      • vSphere_Replication_OVF10.ovf

      • vSphere_Replication-support.vmdk

      • vSphere_Replication-system.vmdk

    3. On the Select name and location page, configure the following settings and click Next.

    4. On the Select a resource page, select the sfo01-m01-mgmt01 cluster and click Next.
    5. On the Review details page, click Next.
    6. On the Accept license agreements page, click Accept and click Next.
    7. On the Select configuration page, leave the default 4 vCPU configuration and click Next.
    8. On the Select storage page, enter the following settings and click Next.

    9. On the Select networks page, select the following settings and click Next.

    10. On the Customize template page, configure the following settings and click Next.

    11. On the vService bindings page, click Next.
    12. On the Ready to complete page, click Finish.
  6. Add a dedicated network adapter for replication traffic.
    1. Right-click the sfo01m01vrms01 virtual machine and select Edit Settings.
    2. In the Edit Settings dialog box, from the New device drop-down menu, select Network, and click Add.
    3. From the New Network device drop-down menu, select Show more networks, select sfo01-m01-vds01-replication, and click OK.
    4. In the Edit Settings dialog box, click OK.
  7. (Optional) If replication traffic for Availability Zone 2 is configured, add a dedicated network adapter to handle replication traffic to Availability Zone 2.
    1. Right-click the sfo01m01vrms01 virtual machine and select Edit Settings.
    2. In the Edit Settings dialog box, from the New device drop-down menu, select Network, and click Add.
    3. From the New Network device drop-down menu, select Show more networks, select sfo02-m01-vds01-replication, and click OK.
    4. In the Edit Settings dialog box, click OK.
