To enable NSX-T Federation you add your existing NSX-T Manager as a location to the NSX-T Global Manager. You use the certificate thumbprint obtained earlier for that procedure. The NSX-T Manager becomes an NSX-T Local Manager. You later import your segments, Tier-0 gateways, and Tier-1 gateways from the NSX-T Local Manager to the NSX-T Global Manager.

Procedure

  1. In a Web browser, log in to the NSX-T Global Manager cluster for the management domain in Region A by using the user interface.

  2. Add the management domain in Region B as a location for NSX-T Federation.
    1. On the main navigation bar, click System.
    2. In the navigation pane, select Location Manager.
    3. Click Add on-prem location and enter the configuration.

      In the SHA-256 Thumbprint text box, enter the thumbprint value that you obtained earlier.

    4. Click Check Compatibility and click Save.
    5. Wait for the Sync Status to show Success and verify that all NSX-T Local Manager nodes lax-m01nsx01a, lax-m01-nsx01b, and lax-m01-nsx01c appear.

      NSX-T Federation is now enabled and the NSX-T Manager nodes become NSX-T Local Manager nodes.

  3. Configure networking for the NSX-T Local Manager nodes.
    1. On the main navigation bar, click System.
    2. In the navigation pane, select Location Manager.
    3. Under lax-m01, click Networking.
    4. Under Networking, click Configure.
    5. On the Configure Edge Nodes for Stretch Networking page, click Select all, configure the Remote tunnel endpoint configuration, and click Save.

  4. From the NSX-T Manager drop-down menu at the top, select the sfo-m01-nsx-gm01 NSX-T Global Manager.
  5. Import the NSX-T Local Manager configurations to the NSX-T Global Manager.
    1. On the main navigation bar, click System.
    2. In the navigation pane, select Location Manager.
    3. Under Locations, click Import to to import objects and policies from the lax-m01 location.
    4. In the Import dialog box, verify you have a recent backup and click Proceed to import.
    5. In the Preparing for import dialog box, click Next, click Import, and wait for a confirmation that the import is successful.
