After you create and sync virtual apps collections to Workspace ONE Access from the Resources > Virtual Apps Collections page, you can view and manage the virtual apps and desktops from the Resources > Virtual Apps page.

All virtual apps and desktops that are synced to Workspace ONE Access, from all types of virtual apps integrations, appear on the Virtual Apps page. You can search for a specific app, view apps by type or category, assign apps to categories, create user assignments for ThinApp packages, view synced user assignments for Horizon, Horizon Cloud, and Citrix virtual apps, and set application-specific access policies.

View Apps by Type or Category

To view apps of a certain type, such as Horizon desktop, click the icon in the Type column heading and select the types of virtual apps that you want to view.

To view apps that belong to a certain category, click the icon in the Category column heading and select the categories that you want to view.

Assign Virtual Apps to Categories

You can organize virtual apps and web apps into categories to make it easier for users to find the resources in the Intelligent Hub app and portal. For example, you can create a category called Benefits, and place all benefits-related apps in that category. You can also assign an app to multiple categories. For example, an app can be part of a Benefits category as well as a Permanent Employees category.

A predefined category called Recommended is also available. Apps that are part of this category appear in the recommended list of apps in the Intelligent Hub app and portal.

To assign virtual apps to categories:

  1. In the Virtual Apps page, select the check box next to the apps that you want to assign to a specific category.
  2. Click the Categories button, and either select a category from the list or create a new category.

To create a new category, type the category name at the top of the Categories drop-down list, then click Add Category name.

The apps are assigned to the category.

View User Assignments for Horizon, Horizon Cloud, and Citrix Virtual Apps

User assignments for all types of virtual apps except ThinApp are synced from the source servers to Workspace ONE Access. You do not directly assign these virtual apps to users in Workspace ONE Access. If you want to modify user assignments, make the changes in the source deployment, such as a VMware Horizon or Citrix deployment, and sync the virtual apps collection again.

To view user assignments:

  1. In the Virtual Apps page, click the name of the application.
  2. In the application page, click View Assignments.

You can see the users and groups to which the virtual app or desktop is assigned. You can also view the deployment type. The deployment type for Horizon, Horizon Cloud, and Citrix virtual apps collections is set at the virtual apps collection level. To edit the deployment type, you must edit the virtual apps collection. See Editing Virtual Apps Collections in Workspace ONE Access.

Assign Users to ThinApp Applications

  1. In the Virtual Apps page, click the name of the ThinApp application.
  2. In the application page, click Assign.
  3. Search for and select the users and groups to whom you want to assign the application.
  4. For each user and group, select the deployment type, User-Activated or Automatic.

With both the User-Activated and Automatic options, the application appears in the Apps tab in the Intelligent Hub app and portal. The user can run the app from the Apps tab or mark it as a favorite and run it from the Favorites tab. However, if you want to set up an approval flow for the application, you must select the User-Activated deployment type.

Select Access Policies for Virtual Apps

The default access policy, named default_access_policy_set, applies to all virtual apps by default. You can also set specific policies for individual virtual apps and desktops, which override the default policy. Access policies can restrict or grant access based on criteria such as network, device type, and authentication method. You must first create these policies from the Resources > Policies page, and then select them for virtual apps.

To select an access policy for a virtual app:

  1. In the Virtual Apps page, click the application you want to edit.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. Scroll to the Access Policies section and select the access policy to use for the application.

For detailed information on access policies and how they are applied, see the Workspace ONE Access Administration guide.

Delete a ThinApp Package

  1. On the Virtual Apps page, click the ThinApp package.
  2. On the application page, click Delete.
Caution: When you delete a ThinApp package, all users lose access to the application. To add the application back, you will need to sync the ThinApp virtual apps collection again and assign the application to users again.

Licensing

You can configure licensing for applications to manage access to the applications. When licensing is configured for an application, users can view the application in their catalog and request access to it. You must set up an approval engine before you can enable licensing. For more information, see Enabling Application Approval for Resource Usage.
