On-premises customer who do not want to store the application package in the AirWatch Server can choose to keep internal applications in an external application repository and enter the location of internal applications on the external app repository using a Link.

You can use Workspace ONE UEM to add your organization's internally developed applications in two ways:

  • Host internal application on an external cloud storage system such as dropbox, OneDrive for Business and so on.
  • Host internal applications on customer network with an external application repository.

Host internal application on a external cloud storage system

If you are using file storage system to host an internal application, the Devices Services server facilitates the connection for the device to get the application from the file storage system when the UEM console initiates the deployment. Workspace ONE UEM currently does not support external cloud storage system links that requires authentication. It is important that the internal application package that is hosted on a external cloud storage system is a direct link which allows the end users to accept the application package through the URL.

Host internal application on a Customer network

If you are using External App Repository, the Content Gateway facilitates the connection for the device to get the application from the external app repository when the UEM console initiates the deployment. You can host internal applications on your network with an external application repository and manage the applications with the Workspace ONE UEM. The Workspace ONE UEM uses Windows File Share protocols to make externally hosted applications available to user devices. Communication is secure because on-premises deployments must use the Content Gateway for Windows to transfer data from the on-premises network to the Workspace ONE UEM.

Complete the following steps to the Content Gateway for Windows to transfer data from the on-premises network to the Workspace ONE UEM.

  1. Configure and use the Content Gateway for Windows to secure communications between your network and Workspace ONE UEM if you have an on-premises deployment.

For information on configuring the Content Gateway, see the Workspace ONE UEM Content Management Enterprise Integration Solution Overview.

  2. Enter the credentials for the external app repository so Workspace ONE UEM can direct device users to the internal applications on your network in the external app repository. Workspace ONE UEM supports one set of credentials to authenticate to repositories that require it. If you have multiple repositories set up on the Content Gateway, use a common set of credentials, if your repositories require authentication.

See Enable the External App Repository.

  3. Enter the location of internal applications on the external app repository using a Link.

See Configure Internal Application From External Repositories.
