Will Admins Perform Device Registrations?

Yes No

There are elements you need to consider before deciding.

Who Will Register Devices?

Whatever the configuration on any given device, when it comes to those that require human intervention, it comes down to two choices: either the Administrator does it or the End User does it.

In addressing the question of who will actually register devices, think about how many devices you have.

In large deployments of thousands of devices, the admin may want to add this data to a CSV (comma-separated values) file. This file is then uploaded before devices are provisioned. For more information, see Register Multiple Devices.

If you have a very small number of devices to register, you can simply register them one at a time. For more information, see Register an Individual Device.

Alternately, you can pass on the task of device registration onto the end user. For more information, see End-User Device Registration and Direct Users to Self-Register.

You have chosen to let Administrators register devices.

Admins now have two paths from which to choose.

  1. Register an Individual Device.
  2. Register Multiple Devices.

Having registered devices, the administrator may wish to restrict enrollment to registered devices only and allow the end-user to enroll themselves. For more information, see Restrict Enrollment to Registered Devices Only and Self-Enrollment Process.

As the administrator, you may want to enroll devices on the end-user's behalf by undergoing a process called staging. For more information, see Self-Enrollment vs Device Staging.

  1. Stage a Single-User Device.
  2. Stage a Multi-User Device.

Once these choices have been made and acted upon, proceed to the final question in the enrollment process, Are You Configuring Any Additional Enrollment Restrictions?

You have elected for end-users to own the task of registering devices.

Users must simply follow the instructions that the admin provides to Direct Users to Self-Register.

As the Administrator, you must prepare the communication to send to the end-users, instructing them to self-register. For more information, see End-User Device Registration.
