What's in the Release Notes

VMware Workspace ONE Launcher Release Notes provide information on the new features and improvement in each release. This page includes a summary of the new features, resolved, and known issues reported in the latest version.

Minimum Requirements

  • Android 5.0 or later
  • Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 20.10 for Android
  • Workspace ONE UEM Console 20.06 or later

Download Instructions

  • Prior Version is Installed: The admin can decide when to push the app once it is available on the Workspace ONE UEM console as a seeded application.
    • For devices that support silent install of applications, the Launcher application seamlessly updates over the existing application version without disrupting device enterprise functionality. For devices that do not support silent install of applications, the users will be prompted to install the new version.
    • For Android 6.0 and above, the user will be prompted to grant permission for the Launcher to have access to the Usage Data, if they have not already granted the permissions.
    • For Android 5.0, the users will be prompted to grant permissions for Launcher to have access to Usage Data only if the admin has pushed a profile requiring the user to do so (more details present in previous technical bulletins).
  • Prior Version is Not Installed: Once the admin decides to push the Workspace ONE Launcher to the devices, the Launcher gets downloaded to the device as a seeded application.
    • For Samsung SAFE devices, the Launcher will be setup without any end user interaction and the native launcher will be replaced by Workspace ONE Launcher. For non-SAFE devices, the user will be directed through a two-step process to set the Workspace ONE Launcher as the default Launcher.
    • For Android 6.0 and above, the user will be prompted to grant permission for the Launcher to have access to the Usage Data, if they have not already granted the permissions.
    • For Android 5.0, the users will be prompted to grant permissions for Launcher to have access to Usage Data only if the admin has pushed a profile requiring the user to do so (more details present in previous technical bulletins).

Workspace ONE Launcher 22.07 for Android

New Features

We've improved Launcher icons.

As part of our continued efforts to enhance Launcher User Interface, we have enhanced how applications icons are displayed within Launcher. With this release, the white circular border around the application icon is removed. This should help the icons look more polished and easier to see.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.07 for Android

  • ALAU-171986: Usage access permission screen is blocked in skipCosu mode.

  • ALAU-171675: Uninstalling of applications in the application tab is not updating the listview.

Known Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.07 for Android

Workspace ONE Launcher 22.05 for Android

New Features

We are constantly working to improve Workspace ONE Launcher for Android. There are no new features for this version.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.05 for Android

  • ALAU-171675: List of applications is not updated when an app is removed from the 'Applications' Tab.

  • ALAU-171859: Floating Button is incorrectly shown when inactivity timeout screen is configured.

  • ALAU-171499: Select devices experience disappearance of internal app icon in Launcher home screen.

  • ALAU-171718: User cannot enable notification permission when none of the device settings are enabled in Launcher profile.

  • ALAU-171781: Orientation lock set for guest mode incorrectly persists on non-guest logins.

  • ALAU-171942: Access to Wi-Fi and select launcher settings are briefly available after a device reboot.

Known Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.05 for Android

Workspace ONE Launcher 22.04 for Android

New Features

  • Introduced support for running Launcher as a Foreground Service:
    • In order to improve resiliency and better detect app crashes, Launcher will now run as a foreground service. As part of this, there are  persistent notifications on the native notification tray informing the end user that Launcher is running as a foreground service.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.04 for Android

  • ALAU-171802: Custom settings to disable ‘Search Bar’ and enable ‘Dark Mode’ do not get applied.

  • ALAU-171852: Dialog box to enter ‘Admin Mode’ is greyed out .

  • ALAU-171853: Guest mode information is incorrectly shown when you navigate to ‘Settings’.

  • ALAU-171827: Settings menu was incorrectly accessible when the user was logged out of check-in/check-out due to inactivity.

  • ALAU-171403: Wallpaper and Title Bar Icon persist in Launcher Canvas after being edited out of the profile.

  • ALAU-171790:  Added correct labels for buttons on Settings Screen for accessibility.

  • ALAU-171826: Menu items fail to execute on device with smaller form factor.

  • ALAU-171803: Added association for labels of buttons for accessibility.

  • ALAU-171787: Launcher crashes after device passcode is changed from UEM.

Known Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.04 for Android

Workspace ONE Launcher 22.01 for Android

New Features

  • Introduced improved user experiences for Launcher setting screens.
    • Added the ability to sync Hub from Launcher settings menu.
    • Removed the Help option in the Launcher menu settings.
  • Target SDK level has been increased to level 26 which removes support for several Custom XML features that depend on overlays which are no longer possible. Note: No features configured through the Android Launcher profile are affected.
    • Impacted features include DismissSafeRebootDialog, DismissPowerOffDialog, DisplayLockScreenMessage, and TabletOverlaySettings.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 22.01 for Android

  • ALAU-171697: Navigation bar height is calculated incorrectly

  • ALAU-171692: Launcher shows Waiting for Profile on upgrade until user click home button

  • ALAU-171686: Launcher showing NO Profile even when profile is present

  • ALAU-171684: Launcher Setting in Tablet is not centred

  • ALAU-171426: Offline Profile does not honor dark theme

  • ALAU-171488: Launcher stuck in waiting for profile after upgrade when there are 3 launcher payloads

  • ALAU-171548: Draw Over Other Apps permission screen is blocked in Android 12

  • ALAU-171089: Launcher in Samsung device with Multi-Window Tray, gives access to Settings page, while allowing Wifi Settings.

  • ALAU-171397: In Zebra ET51/56( Samsung Tab S4) (Android 10) devices, the wifi settings under launcher comes up as blank.

Workspace ONE Launcher 21.10 for Android

New Features

  • Introducing improved user experiences for check-in check-out flows and single app mode:
    • Cleaned up the check-in check-out login screen and profile loading screens.
    • Introduced a dropdown for selecting recently used Group IDs to speed up the log in process.
    • Introduced new screens and animations for permission granting screens:
      • We now show the permission screens before an end user checks out the device.
  • Redesigned the single app floating home button with new customization.
  • You can now manually specify the duration of showing the clearing app data waiting screen before the next user can log into the device.
  • In Launcher single app mode, you can now manually configure the number of home button clicks to display the single app floating action button.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 21.10 for Android

  • ALAU-171539: Extra lock task packages custom setting when assigned to end user is not working.[IMPRIVATA USE CASE]

  • ALAU-171530: Navigation Appears Lower on Pixel 5

Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09 for Android

New Features

  • Introducing a new user experience redesigned for ease of use and familiarity:
    • Cleaned up the home screen experience, notifications, settings, and action bar navigation based on customer feedback.
    • Introduced a dedicated screen for the Launcher dropdown menu which will now be home to  new Launcher productivity widgets.
    • Moved Admin Mode access to settings to keep the home screen experience focused on end-user employee features.
    • Added a dark mode so the Launcher user interface can comply with your organization's branding.
    • Added an optional search bar so end-users can easily find apps and bookmarks on the Home Screen.
    • Added the optional flashlight functionality to the quick access features.
  • Introducing Launcher widgets that are entirely customizable:.
    • The custom attribute widget will allow admins to display custom attributes or lookup values for simple referencing and end-user troubleshooting.
    • The custom HTML widget will allow admins to display HTML or a web page within Launcher's dropdown menu. In addition, admins can create fully custom views using this feature and even leverage mobile deep linking to create a native-like UI.
      • Admins can use lookup values to populate URL queries and dynamically display web views based on the device or user.
  • Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09 for Android includes support for Android 12.
  • Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09 for Android includes support for Scoped Storage changes.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09 for Android

  • ALAU-171194: Launcher orientation should be reset after logout.

  • ALAU-171396: Resolved an issue that caused the SkipUsageAccessPermission flag to not apply to the device.

Workspace ONE Launcher 21.06 for Android

New Features

  • Admins can now track the usage of Launcher through Workspace ONE Intelligence. 
    • You can track user count and metrics related to check-in check-out. This includes check in failures, check out failures, and loading time for the home screen.
    • You can now use weblinks to deep link into Hub features like the Apps and People Tab.
      • Example: wsonehub://apps/view/
        • Ex. wsonehub://apps/view/Hub
        • Navigates to application specified by the app name.

Resolved Issues for Workspace ONE Launcher 21.06 for Android

  • ALAU-170868: Launcher now targets SDK 25.

  • ALAU-170988

    Resolves an issue that caused the floating home button appears along with the single app floating home button.

  • ALAU-170994: Resolves an issue where Launcher was unable to exit out of lock task mode.

  • ALAU-171130: Improves stability of Launcher when setting as the default Launcher.

  • ALAU-171150: Resolves a crash accessing a local file via a weblink.

  • ALAU-171151: Resolves an issue that stopped Launcher from launching after an upgrade on Samsung devices.

  • ALAU-171152: Resolves an issue where Launcher would still clear app data even if set to false in the console settings.

  • ALAU-171163: Launcher no longer attempts to clear the Samsung EFOTA app data.
