How Do You Change Your Workspace ONE Access URL?

Use the VMware Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub to customize the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for your VMware Workspace ONE Access tenant so that it is recognizable and represents your organization.

Your Workspace ONE Access service URL represents your organization's FQDN. Users enter this FQDN in the browser to access apps in the VMware Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub app catalog. Many companies want the service URL to also represent their branding. When Workspace ONE Access is provisioned, information received during the order is used to configure the service URL. Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub provides an opportunity to customize the tenant name portion of the service URL.

You can customize your Workspace ONE Access tenant name in Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub.

Updating During Onboarding

Updating the tenant name of the Workspace ONE Access service URL during the onboarding process is preferable because this tenant is not yet configured. It is easier for the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub to create a new tenant with the customized URL without risking possible loss of data.

During the onboarding process in the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub, the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub presents the option to change the tenant name for your Workspace ONE Access service URL.

Update Process

  1. Select I want to customize the tenant URL now.
    • You can select to do this operation later, but the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub prompts you to confirm your decision to customize the tenant URL later.
    • If you do decide to customize the name later, make this change before you start using your Workspace ONE Access tenant.
In the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub during onboarding, select I want to customize the tenant URL now menu item to update the Access tenant URL.
  2. Enter your preferred tenant name in the text field. Follow the rules provided to ensure your chosen name is valid.
  3. Select Verify.
    • The system verifies the name to make sure it meets all the conditions. The system also verifies that the name is not already in use.
    • Tenant names must be unique.
    • If verification fails, you can reenter a different name.
During onboarding in the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub, you can enter a different tenant name if the verification fails. Use the parameters listed on the page to create the unique tenant name.
  4. After successful verification, submit your preferred name.
    • The operation takes a minute or two to complete. You can refresh the page to see the status of the operation.
    • To complete the process, the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub displays a message that the submission was successful and you can now access your services.
In the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub during onboarding, upon successful entry of a chosen name, the UI displays a message that your entry was successful and that you can refresh the browser to see the status of your entry.

Updating After Onboarding

Customize your Workspace ONE Access service URL during onboarding. However, if you cannot customize the URL during onboarding, it is possible to update it after onboarding.

Important: If you customize your tenant name after onboarding, customize it before you start configuring your Workspace ONE Access tenant. If the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub detects active usage of a Workspace ONE Access tenant URL, it blocks the update operation to safe guard your data. You must create a support ticket with VMware to unblock your service.

Update Alternative - Vanity URL

If you previously configured your Workspace ONE Access tenant and are using it actively, use a vanity URL. Create a 301 permanent record to redirect traffic to your Workspace ONE Access tenant instead of going through a tenant update process. You can learn more about the process by watching the VMware Digital Workspace Tech Zone video VMware Workspace ONE Access: Service URL - Feature Walk-through.

Update Process

If you want to customize your Workspace ONE Access tenant name after onboarding but before configuring the Workspace ONE Access tenant, go to Integrations > Workspace ONE Access in the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub.

  1. Select Change to start the process.
    • Changing the Workspace ONE Access URL is a destructive process. It requires deleting the existing tenant and deploying a new one. The Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub deactivates this operation if it finds active usage on your Workspace ONE Access tenant.
    • Contact VMware through a support ticket if your Change button is deactivated and you do not want to use a vanity URL. Blocking the Change menu item safeguards your deployment against inadvertently destroying data pertaining to your Workspace ONE Access tenant.
In the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub, go to the Workspace ONE Access tenant in the Integrations section, and select Change to create the vanity URL.
  2. Acknowledge that you understand that the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub deletes the existing tenant so it can deploy the new one.
In the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub, confirm tenant deletion so you can create your vanity URL for your Workspace ONE Access tenant.
  3. Enter your preferred tenant name in the text field. Follow the rules provided on this page to ensure your chosen name is valid.
  4. Select Verify.
    • The system verifies the name to make sure it meets all the conditions. The system also verifies that the name is not already in use.
    • Tenant names must be unique.
    • If verification fails, you can reenter a different name.
In the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub, when creating a vanity URL for Workspace ONE Access, you can renter the name if the verification fails. Use the parameters listed on the page to create the unique name.
  5. After successful verification, submit your preferred name.
    • The operation takes a minute or two to complete. You can refresh the page to see the status of the operation.
    • To complete the process, the Workspace ONE Cloud Admin Hub displays a message that submission was successful.
    • If you see an error message, contact VMware Global Services for help.
