A vApp state depends on the state of the VMs it contains. You perform specific actions over the vApp and VM replications depending on their state.

States of Stable vApp Replications

When all VMs within a vApp are in the same stable state, the vApp is also in a stable state. The name for this type of state ends with an "-ed". For example, Protected state. The table below lists all of the stable vApp states and the related actions you can perform on vApp replications in that state.

vApp Replication State

Actions Performed over the vApp Replication

Configured

Edit, Sync, Detach

Protected

Test, Pause, Failover, Edit, Detach (Deterred), Sync (if RPO violation is present)

Failed Over

Reverse, View, Detach

Failed Over Test Ready

Cleanup, Failover, Edit, Detach (Deterred)

Protect - Replications Paused

Resume, Failover, Edit, Detach (Deterred)

Reconfigured

Edit, Sync, Detach

Reversed

Test, Pause, Failback, Edit, Detach (Deterred), Sync (if RPO violation is present)

Failed Back

Reprotect, View, Detach

Failed Back Test Ready

Cleanup, Failback, Edit, Detach (Deterred)

Reversed - Replications Paused

Resume, Failback, Edit, Detach (Deterred)

Note:
  • Performing Failover operation over a vApp/VM in the Protect - Replications Paused state results with a failure if you select Resync before Failover option during the recovery.

  • Performing Failback operation over a vApp/VM in the Reversed - Replications Paused state results with a failure if you select Resync before Failback option during the recovery.

vApps containing VMs with different states are in partially stable state.

States of Transitional vApp Replications

When a VM replication is still in a transitional state, the vApp containing that VM is also in an active "-ing" state.
