A policy is a set of rules that you define for vRealize Operations to use to analyze and display information about the objects in your environment. You can modify an existing policy or create a new policy and configure it for automatic alert remediation. To automate the workflow execution, you must apply the policy to a custom group called vRealize Orchestrator Adapter-Managed Objects. This group contains the vSphere objects.
Prerequisites
Ensure that the following prerequisites are met:
- You have mapped custom and user-defined workflows to resources as actions. Automated workflow execution is possible on workflows which have only one input parameter. The only other input parameter is vrops_alert_id and it is used to fetch the ID of the alert that triggered the workflow. This input parameter should be of the type String. To automate workflows which have more than one input parameter, you must create a user-defined workflow and predefine the input parameters in the workflow.
- You have mapped the action to an alert through a recommendation.
Procedure
- From the left menu, click Configure, and then click Policies.
- Select the current default policy. In the More Actions tab, click Edit.
- Select Groups and Objects tab in the Default Policy [Edit] window.
- Click Save.
- Select the checkbox next to vRealize Orchestrator Adapter Managed Objects.
- Select Alerts and Symptoms tab in the Default Policy [Edit] window.
- In the Alert Definitions pane, filter by the name of the alert to which you have mapped the action that you want to automate.
- Select the alert from the filter results.
- In the Automate column, select Local.
- In the State column, select Enabled.
- Click Save.
Results
The default policy is modified to automatically run the configured action when mapped alerts are displayed.
