About vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1

VMware vRealize® Suite is the complete cloud management solution, delivering and managing infrastructure and applications quickly while maintaining IT control. It provides a comprehensive management stack for IT services on vSphere and other hypervisors, physical infrastructure, and multiple public clouds. vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager automates installation, configuration, upgrade, patch, configuration management, and health from within a single pane of glass. This provides the IT Managers or Cloud admin resources to focus on business-critical initiatives, while improving time to value (TTV), reliability and consistency.

What's New?

  • vRealize Automation version 8.5.1 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.1 are supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 4.
  • SecOps license for vRealize Automation Salt Stack versions 8.5.0 and 8.5.1 are supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 4.
  • vRealize Automation version 8.5.0 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.0 are supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 3.
    • vRealize Automation SaltStack Config Standalone: This setup has no dependency on vRealize Automation and the installation proceeds without VMware Identity Manager integration.
    • vRealize Automation SaltStack Config vRA-Integrated: vRealize Automation SaltStack Config can be installed for each tenant that is configured in vRealize Automation performing organic growth. The Day 0 and Day 2 VMware Identity Manager integration is supported for vRealize Automation SaltStack Config vRA-Integrated version 8.4.2 and later.
  • vRealize Network Insight version 6.3.0 and vRealize Operations Manager version 8.5.0 are supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 2.
  • vRealize Log Insight version 8.4.1 is supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 1.
  • vRealize Automation version 8.4.1 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config 8.4.1 are supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1.
  • VMware Identity Manager version 3.3.5 is supported with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1.
  • Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) and non-FIPS modes are supported for VMware Identity Manager version 3.3.5 in vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1. However, you cannot toggle the FIPS mode after the VMware Identity Manager installation.
  • vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 provides an option to remove existing product license when you apply a new license. This feature is available for vRealize Operations Manager, vRealize Log Insight, and vRealize Automation version 8.x.

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 4

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager Product Support Pack 4 is available for vRealize Automation version 8.5.1 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.1. vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 4 is a cumulative product pack of vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 PSPAK 1, PSPAK 2 and PSPAK 3, and vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 patch 1 and patch 2.

To install PSPAK 4 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is connected to the internet, perform the following steps:     

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  3. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  4. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section. The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager auto-populates the list of available support versions. If the list is not auto-populated, click CHECK SUPPORT PACKS ONLINE.
  5. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  6. Once the PSPAK 4 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

       Note: To verify your new PSPAK 4, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists policy 8.4.1.5, Automation version 8.5.1, and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.1.

To install PSPAK 4 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is not connected to the internet, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Download the product support pack file from VMware Patch Download Center.
  3. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  4. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  5. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section.
  6. To upload the downloaded product support pack file, click Upload and click SELECT FILE to select the .pspak4 file, and click Import.
  7. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  8. Once the PSPAK 4 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

          Note: To verify your new PSPAK 4, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists vRealize Automation version 8.5.1 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.1.

After you have added the .pspak4 file successfully, refresh the UI.

To download the product support pack, visit VMware Patch Download Center, and then select vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager from the Product drop-down menu. Select vRLCM-8.4.1-PSPACK4, and then download vrlcm-8.4.1-PSPACK4.

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 3

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager Product Support Pack 3 is available for vRealize Automation version 8.5.0 and vRealize Automation Salt Stack Config version 8.5.0. vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Patch 1 is a cumulative product pack of PSPAK 1 and PSPAK 2, which must be applied prior to adding PSPAK 3.

To install PSPAK 3 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is connected to the internet, perform the following steps:     

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  3. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  4. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section. The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager auto-populates the list of available support versions. If the list is not auto-populated, click CHECK SUPPORT PACKS ONLINE.
  5. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.

  5. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section.

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 2

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager Product Support Pack 2 is available for vRealize Network Insight version 6.3.0 and vRealize Operations Manager version 8.5.0. vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Patch 1 must be applied prior to adding PSPAK 2.

To install PSPAK 2 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is connected to the internet, perform the following steps:     

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  3. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  4. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section. The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager auto-populates the list of available support versions. If the list is not auto-populated, click CHECK SUPPORT PACKS ONLINE.
  5. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  6. Once the PSPAK 2 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

       Note: To verify your new PSPAK 2, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists policy 8.4.1.3, vRealize Network Insight version 6.3.0, and vRealize Operations Manager version 8.5.0.

To install PSPAK 2 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is not connected to the internet, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Download the product support pack file from VMware Patch Download Center.
  3. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  4. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  5. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section.
  6. To upload the downloaded product support pack file, click Upload and click SELECT FILE to select the .pspak2 file, and click Import.
  7. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  8. Once the PSPAK 2 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

          Note: To verify your new PSPAK 2, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists vRealize Network Insight version 6.3.0 and vRealize Operations Manager version 8.5.0.

After you have added the .pspak2 file successfully, refresh the UI.

To download the product support pack, visit VMware Patch Download Center, and then select vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager from the Product drop-down menu. Select vRLCM-8.4.1-PSPACK2, and then download vrlcm-8.4.1-PSPACK2.

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 Product Support Pack 1

  • vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager Product Support Pack 1 is available for vRealize Log Insight 8.4.1.
  • Support for Scale up of VMware Identity Manager 3.3.4: Scale up of VMware Identity Manager 3.3.4 is enabled with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.4.1 PSPAK 1.

To install vRealize Log Insight 8.4.1 PSPAK 1 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is connected to the internet, perform the following steps:     

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  3. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  4. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section. The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager auto-populates the list of available support versions. If the list is not auto-populated, click CHECK SUPPORT PACKS ONLINE.
  5. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  6. Once the PSPAK 1 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

       Note: To verify your new PSPAK 1, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists the Policy 8.4.1.1 and vRealize Log Insight 8.4.1.

To install vRealize Log Insight 8.4.1 PSPAK 1 when vRealize Lifecycle Manager is not connected to the internet, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that you have taken a snapshot of VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager VA.
  2. Download the product support pack file from VMware Patch Download Center.
  3. Log in to vRealize Lifecycle Manager VA.
  4. On the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack.
  5. Select the Support for Additional Product Versions section.
  6. To upload the downloaded product support pack file, click Upload and click SELECT FILE to select the .pspak1 file, and click Import.
  7. When the list is populated, click Apply Version in Settings> Product Support Pack for the appropriate content version.
  8. Once the PSPAK 1 installation is triggered successfully, VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager services are restarted and you are redirected to VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI login page.

          Note: To verify your new PSPAK 1, on the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Product Support Pack. The option lists vRealize Log Insight 8.4.1.

After you have added the .pspak1 file successfully, refresh the UI.

To download the product support pack, visit VMware Patch Download Center, and then select vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager from the Product drop-down menu. Select vRLCM-8.4.1-PSPACK1, and then download vrlcm-8.4.1-PSPACK1.

Resolved Issues

  • Resource action capture fails if it has resource map dependency

    If the resource map with dependency for resource action has an inbuilt resource type, the capture fails.

  • vRealize Orchestrator content release failure when content is source controlled

    When capturing vRealize Orchestrator content by folder, the empty tag files are also created. When the content is marked as source controlled content, VMware vCenter Orchestrator content release fails.

Known Issues

  • VMware Identity Manager scale-out operation fails with an error

    When performing the scale-out operation on VMware Identity Manager, if root password and sshuser password are different, then the operation fails with an LCMVIDM73102 error code. You may see the following error message.

    Failed to enable SSH access to the root user

    Workaround: Ensure that you have the same root password and sshuser password on VMware Identity Manager before initiating the scale-out operation.

  • Error When Scaling Up VMware Identity Manager During Disk Partitioning

    When scaling up VMware Identity Manager during disk partitioning, the operation may fail with an error.

    Workaround: Perform the following steps:

    1. Verify the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager logs, and then revert the snapshots on the VMware Identity Manager nodes.
    2. Refer to KB 2097696 to increase the resources. For clustered VMware Identity Manager, power it on using vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager after increasing the resources.
  • vRealize Automation 8.2.0 Patch 1 download fails

    When downloading vRealize Automation 8.2.0 Patch 1 online, it may fail due to issues in the production Content Delivery Network (CDN), where vRealize Automation patch is hosted, and you may see the following error:

    LCMPATCHDOWNLOAD16001 Patch Processing failed

    Workaround: Perform the following steps to download vRealize Automation 8.2.0 Patch 1. Close the other patch downloads in progress when performing these steps.

    1. If there are any files in the /data/patches/temp/ folder of vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager, delete the files.
    2. Trigger a patch refresh by navigating to Settings > Binary Mapping >Patch Binaries, and then selecting Check Patches Online in vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager.
    3. Proceed with the patch download.
  • UNKNOWN_SYSTEM_ERROR when deploying VMware Identity Manager cluster setup with Windows connector node

    When deploying or scaling-out VMware Identity Manager cluster setup with the Windows connector node, the operation may fail with an UNKNOWN_SYSTEM_ERROR.

    Workaround: Perform an installation or scale-out operation for VMware Identity Manager cluster setup and Windows connector separately.

  • The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI crashes when navigating to certain pages.

    The vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI crashes or does not reflect specific operations when navigating to certain pages. It displays an unexpected error message to check connectivity to the server and try again.

    Workaround: Perform one of the following workarounds:

    • Clear the browser cache.
    • Open the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager UI in an incognito mode to reset the browser cache.
